Incredible story, very well written. Cronin does such a worthwhile job on the storytelling of this tale. He admits, in the end, that the story in its entirety is simply a condensing of Ricci’s own notes, letters to friends, and records from Rome. I am impressed by the story of Ricci, not only for his dedication to the SOJ, but his diligence and fortitude in taking on a mission that most would not. Most certainly, linguistically, Ricci’s talents were unmatched, which again plays a great role in my life’s learning. If you are into sinology, the power of language (view spoiler)
